Teenage years can be challenging for any young person, but for teenagers with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Difference (ASD), these challenges can feel overwhelming at times. Counselling offers a safe, supportive space where young people can better understand themselves, develop coping strategies, and build confidence in who they are.
Counselling can support teenagers to:
For neurodivergent teens, counselling is not about “fixing” them. It’s about supporting their wellbeing, recognising their strengths, and helping them thrive in a world that doesn’t always feel designed for them.
I work in a neurodiversity-affirming way, respecting each young person’s individual experience of ADHD or autism. Sessions are adapted to suit your teenager’s needs, communication style, and sensory preferences.
Counselling may include:
I have worked as a counsellor within a school setting, supporting teenagers with a wide range of emotional and mental health needs, including ADHD and ASD. This experience has given me a strong understanding of the pressures young people face in education, such as academic stress, social challenges, masking, and burnout.
In addition, I bring lived experience of ADHD and ASD in teenagers, which informs my work with empathy, insight, and genuine understanding. I recognise how complex and nuanced neurodivergent experiences can be — both for young people and their families.
When appropriate, I also offer space to support parents and carers, helping them better understand their teenager’s needs and how to support emotional wellbeing at home. Collaboration and communication are key to creating lasting, positive change.
If you’re considering counselling for your teenager, you’re not alone. Reaching out for support can be a big step towards improved emotional wellbeing, confidence, and resilience.
